Women’s Hockey Semifinal LIVE: India vs Argentina; Rani Rampal and Co. a win away from securing first Olympic medal

After outclassing three times Olympics gold medallists Australia in Monday’s clash, the Indian Women’s Hockey team to take on current World No. 2 Argentina in the women’s semifinal on Wednesday, August 4, at 3:30 pm (IST).

The Indian Women’s Hockey led by Captain Rani Rampal on August 2 defeated top-seeded Australia 1-0 and carved its name in history as they entered the semi-finals of the Olympic Games for the first time.

Whereas on the other hand, Argentina defeated the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallists Germany 3-0 in the Quarter Final and secured a semi-final spot. Argentina has so far won four out of their six matches.

Speaking ahead of the Semi-Final clash, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team Captain Rani Rampal said, “We were extremely happy with our team performance against Australia, who is a world-class hockey team. However, there is not much time to look back, and our focus is fully on the Semi-Final against Argentina. At this stage of the competition, matches do not get any easier, and we are going to give everything we have on the field.”

A win in the semi-final match will guarantee the medal for India at the Olympic Games.

The intense semi-final match between India and Argentina will be played at Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo.
