“Today we are looking at technology as a tool to help the poor, a tool for their progress,” said PM Modi, in his address that followed the launch of the digital initiative.
PM Narendra Modi also underlined the importance of e-RUPI voucher and said it will strengthen the DBT scheme and make it more effective. The DBT program transfers subsidies directly to the people through their bank accounts.
PM Modi also said the use of the e-RUPI voucher will help everyone in Targeted, Transparent and Leakage Free Delivery. He called the voucher “person as well as purpose-specific”.
The prime minister also said that the platform is an example of how India is moving forward and connecting people in the 21st century with the help of advanced technology.
PM Modi said that India is now showing the world today that it is second to none in adopting technology and connecting with it and has the ability to give global leadership along with big countries of the world.
Mentioning PM Svanidhi Yojana in his address, PM said, “Today, in small and big cities of the country, more than 23 lakh street vendors and vendors have been helped under this scheme. In this Corona period, about Rs 2300 crore has been given to them.”
Showering praises on India’s digital infrastructure, PM Modi also asserted that the world is accepting the iron of the work that has been done in the last 6-7 years for digital infrastructure and digital transactions in the country.
Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) along with the Department of Financial Services, Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and National Health Authority, e-RUPI is a QR code-based or SMS string-based e-Voucher, which is delivered to the beneficiaries via mobile. The beneficiary by using this seamless one-time payment mechanism will be able to redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app, or internet banking access, at the service provider.
Eliminating the middlemen
The person and purpose-specific digital payment solution platform connects the sponsors of the services with the beneficiaries and service providers in a digital manner while ensuring that the payment to the service provider is made only after the transaction is completed. Being pre-paid in nature, e-RUPI assures timely payment to the service provider without the involvement of any intermediary.
Where can e-RUPI be used?
As a part of the Indian Government’s Digital India venture, the revolutionary initiative will ensure a leak-proof delivery of welfare services. The platform can also be used for delivering services under schemes meant for providing drugs and nutritional support under Mother and Child welfare schemes, TB eradication programs, drugs & diagnostics under schemes like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, fertilizer subsidies among others.
