Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras has also turned out to be a life-saver. Its steadfast commitment to the service of nation is ensuring uninterrupted availability of medicines to the people.
Keeping in view the need of the hour, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras, Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India & Distributors and stakeholders have joined hands to ensure the availability of essential medicines and other items at affordable prices.
Let’s get to know more about Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras
These Kendras are functional across the country in 36 State/UTs covering all districts of the country. At present, they have 1449 medicines and 204 surgical and consumables that are available at affordable prices. All Janaushadhi Kendras offer the best quality N-95 face masks at only Rs. 25. The price of Jan Aushadhi Medicines is based on the principle of – a maximum of 50% of the average price of the top three branded medicines. Therefore, the prices of these medicines are 50 to 90 per cent lower than the market price.
Charan Singh is a resident of Ittava in Uttar Pradesh. He says that he is a regular consumer of acidity medicines from Jan Aaushadhi Kendras. He also informed that these medicines are quite useful.

Last year, to cater for the demand for medicines, Jan Aushadhi Kendras delivered affordable and quality medicines worth Rs. 52 crores to the public. This led to a total savings of approximately 300 crore rupees of common citizens.
These Kendras receive affordable quality generic medicines, surgical items and consumables through the supply chain of the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI). BPPI has provided 25 lacs face masks, 1.25 lacs units of sanitisers, 137 lacs tablets of Hydroxychloroquine and 323 lacs paracetamol to more than 7500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras functioning across the country.

Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India has strengthened India’s logistic system and has made sales of Rs. 80.18 Crore in the current financial year, 2021-22. It has led to savings of approximately Rs. 500 crore to the citizens. The storage and distribution of drugs are functional in 3 modern warehouses located at Gurugram, Guwahati and Chennai. The 4rth warehouse in Surat is in progress and will be soon ready for storage and dissemination. To support the supply of medicines in remote and rural areas, 37 distributors have been appointed across the country.
In light of the ongoing crisis, BPPI maintained adequate stock of the medicines and medical equipment. It has also supplied drugs worth Rs 30 crore to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for distribution to friendly countries.
Apart from this, the ‘Jan Aushadhi Sugam Mobile App’ has helped people in a big way to locate their nearest Jan Aushadhi Kendras and ensure the availability of affordable generic medicine with its price. The app is available on both Android & I-phone platforms and is used by more than 3 lakh people. This app guides the user for locating Janaushadhi Kendra, searching Jan Aushadhi generic medicines, analyzing product comparison of generic and branded medicine in the form of MRP & overall Savings.
Moreover, Kendra pharmacists, popularly known as “Swasth Ke Sipahi” also deliver the medicines to patients and elderly people at their doorstep. To boost the immunity of our women and children, several nutraceutical products are also added to the basket of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya JanAushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)
