India wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya reached the gold medal match in the men’s 57kg freestyle after beating Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev in an intense match. Ravi made a superb comeback in the final round to beat Sanayev via VFA (win by fall) in the men’s 57kg semifinal.
With this victory, Ravi Kumar Dahiya has become the second Indian wrestler to reach an Olympic final after Sushil Kumar. Ravi will be up against the 2nd seed, Russian Olympic Committee’s Uguev, who defeated Iran’s Attrinagharchi 8-3 in the semi-final
A heroic Comeback
Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev scored first in the match and was 2-1 up against the Indian wrestler. Further, Sanayev extended the lead by 9-2 and in the dying minutes, Ravi came back with a heroic act. Ravi forced the opponent and made him fall on the mat, eventually winning the semifinal bout via VFA (win by fall).
Journey to the final
The No.4 seed Ravi was confident on the mat. In his first match, Ravi Kumar defeated Oscar Eduardo Tigreros Urbano of Colombia by 13-2 in the 1/8 final. Further, he beat Bulgaria’s Georgi Valentinov by 14-4 in the 1/4 final.
