Today, India commemorates the 75 years of its independence, celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address to the nation, announced several initiatives to mitigate pressing environmental issues in areas such as preserving biodiversity, land neutrality, waste recycling, organic farming, and climate change.
Noteworthy among them were his thoughts on the National Green Hydrogen Mission, International Solar Alliance, and India’s RE target for 2030.
India is not Energy independent:
In his address, PM said, “India is not Energy independent. It spends over Rs. 12 lakh crore on importing energy. As we celebrate 75 years of Independence, we have to ensure that India becomes Aatmanirbhar in energy production too.”
Thus, PM urged the countrymen to become self-sufficient in producing our own energy, which is also green and sustainable.
International Solar Alliance is an example of India’s equal emphasis on environmental security:
PM Narendra Modi in his Independence day speech said, “We are giving equal emphasis to Environmental Security as to National Security.
Be it biodiversity or land neutrality, climate change or waste recycling, organic farming, India is progressing in all these sectors.”
He further said, the world believes in India’s leadership in environmental issues and International Solar Alliance is an example of that.
Green Hydrogen is the future of the world:
From the ramparts of the Red Fort, today, PM Narendra Modi announced the setting up of the National Green Hydrogen Mission with the aim of making India the new global hub of Green Hydrogen, and also its largest exporter.
India’s ambitious RE target:
India has set for itself the ambitious renewable energy target of 450 GW by 2030.
In a recent milestone development for India, it has already achieved 100 GW target well within schedule, said PM Narendra Modi in his Independence day speech.
