Sensex increases 221 points, Nifty ends at 15,869; Financial and Bank stocks in the lead

Indian equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 extended gains to the fourth trading session in a row and ended the market at a record high on Tuesday. Strong buying interest was seen in bank, media and real estate stocks. Selling pressure witnessed in pharma stocks. Asian Paints was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 3.18 per cent. Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HUL and IndusInd Bank were among the other top Sensex gainers, while Bajaj Finserv, Dr Redyy’s Labs, Titan Company, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Finance were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, South Korea’s Kospi increased by 0.20 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei 225 index increased by 0.96 per cent. China’s Shanghai Composite declined by 0.92 per cent.
**Market Overview**
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.42 and 0.36 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 52,750 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 15,869 mark. The Sensex gained 221 points to trade at 52,773 and the Nifty50 rose by 57 points to trade at 15,869.
**Nifty50 Index**
In the 50-share pack of Nifty50, Asian Paints was the biggest gainer, increased by 3.18 per cent. Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Life, HUL, Britannia and IndusInd Bank were among other gainers.
On the other hand, Divis Labs was the worst performer in the pack, down by 1.71 per cent. Coal India, Bajaj Finserv, Hindalco, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tata Motors and Adani Ports were the other worst performers in the pack.
**Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices**
The Nifty Midcap-100 index surged 0.61 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index rose 0.45 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, GMR Infra gained 14.39 per cent, Future Retail rose 10.00 per cent, Gujrat Gas, Whirlpool and MRPL also surged, while Adani Total Gas, PNB Housing Finance and Adani Power declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, KEI Industries gained 10.88 per cent. On the other hand, Metropolis fell 2.92 per cent, Hind Copper, Aster DM Health, Balrampur Chini declined.
**Sectoral Indices**
In NSE sectoral indices, 12 out of 17 sectors surged. Nifty Media was the top performer as it gained 2.00 per cent, NSE Realty rose 1.32 per cent, followed by Nifty Pvt Bank increased by 1.07 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Pharma, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty PSE declined.
