However, there’s something much more captivating. It is the way India held the hands of its neighbor during its turbulent times. The Indian government supported the cause of Bangladesh’s resistance against Pakistan. And, the military gave its blood and sweat to present the priceless gift of freedom to Bangladesh, back in 1971.
It is to cherish this intricate bond and to express gratitude towards the Indian military that Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria was invited as the Chief Guest on the occasion of the Commissioning of the cadets at Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Academy. R K S Bhadauria thus became the first foreign service head of India to review Bangladesh’s Air Force passing out parade.
*Significance of the visit*:
The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Bangladesh and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s first president.
During his stay in Bangladesh, The CAS held discussions with his host, the Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force as well as the Chief of Army Staff and Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division; wherein matters of mutual interest and avenues to further strengthen the all-encompassing defence cooperation were discussed. He also interacted with the High Commissioner of India, HE Vikram K. Doraiswami during his stay in Dhaka.
