From concern to confidence, empowerment of women has been the central priority of the government. It is well known that almost every successful flagship scheme implemented across the nation has been transformed into a mass movement because of the large scale participation of women.
For the socio-economic empowerment of women, the government is planning to set up Rashtriya Mahila Kosh, especially for women working in the rural and unorganized sectors.
Let’s get to know more about Rashtriya Mahila Kosh
Rashtriya Mahila Kosh is a national level autonomous body that provides concessional, collateral-free micro-credit to women. The operating model followed by Rashtriya Mahila Kosh has been extending loans to Intermediary Microfinance Organizations which further on-lend for entrepreneurial activities of women.
The government has laid down a set of detailed objectives for setting up the Rashtriya Mahila Kosh. Let’s have a look at them.
The major aim of this autonomous body is to undertake activities to provide credit as an instrument of socio-economic change through the provision of a package of financial and social development services to enable a secure life for women. It also supports the schemes that have been strategized to improve the facilities related to credit for women. These facilities incorporate sustenance of existing employment, generation of further employment, asset creation, asset redemption and tiding overconsumption, social and contingent needs.
For effective utilization of credit resources, Rashtriya Mahila Kosh intends to demonstrate and replicate participatory approaches in the organization of women’s groups. It also supports experiments in the voluntary and formal sector using innovative methodologies to reach poor women with credit and other social services.
Besides, the body also focuses on sensitizing the existing government delivery mechanisms and increasing the visibility of poor women as a vital clientele with the conventional institutions. In addition, it encourages research, study, documentation and analysis, including the provision of fellowships and scholarships.
It is worth noting that Rashtriya Mahila Kosh also nurtures the federation and networking of women’s organisations, expansion of entrepreneurship skills and securing the cooperation of Central Government, State Governments, Union Territory Administration, credit institutions, industrial or commercial organisations and non-government organisations and bodies in promoting the objectives of the Kosh.
To enhance the objectives of Kosh, it also accepts subscriptions, grants, contributions, donations, loans, guarantees and performs the lawful acts that may be necessary or conducive for the effective functioning of Rashtriya Mahila Kosh.
Apart from this, the loan schemes implemented in the States/UTs under Rashtriya Mahila Kosh include the Loan promotion scheme, Main Loan Scheme, Gold Credit Scheme, Housing Loan Scheme and Working Capital Term Loan.
It has laid immense stress on shaping & exchanging experience and information to develop skills in response management & social mobilization for empowering the women of the country. The women of New India are scaling new heights, encouraged in word and indeed by the government at every step.
