The module on Child registration and identification of beneficiaries has been made functional on the portal. Moreover, the portal will be regularly updated with necessary information and modules.
*What is PM Cares for Children?*
‘PM CARES for Children’ scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting children who have lost both parents or surviving parents or legal guardians or adoptive parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a very sustained manner, the scheme aims to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children who have lost their parents to the COVID pandemic.
The scheme enables their wellbeing through health insurance, empower them through education and equip them for self-sufficient existence with the financial support of Rs. 10 lakh, on reaching 23 years of age.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has already initiated the process of identification of such children for help.
In a letter dated 22nd July 2021, the Ministry has written to states and Union territories (UTs), urging them to direct district magistrates to identify children who were orphaned due to the coronavirus pandemic, and hence are eligible to receive support under the PM CARES for Children scheme.
A dedicated Help desk has been set up for the purpose which is accessible on official Telephone Number (011-23388074) and email ID (firstname.lastname@example.org).
In fact, the District Magistrates will conduct a drive for identification of these children, with the assistance of Police, DCPU, Childline & Civil society Organisations.
Moreover, Gram Panchayats, Anganwadi & ASHA network will also be sensitized to report such children to the Child Welfare Committee. In addition to this, sufficient publicity about the identification drive will be made in the local language.
*Bal Swaraj-COVID-Care portal*
Other than PM Cares for Children, the government is also running the Bal Swaraj-COVID-Care portal.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has devised an online tracking portal “Bal Swaraj (COVID-Care)” for children in need of care and protection.
This portal is aimed at tracking the children affected by COVID-19 right from the production of children before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to the restoration of the children to their parent, guardian or relative and its subsequent follow-up.
Government initiatives like PM CARES For Children and Bal Swaraj-COVID-Care will help with the Empowerment of COVID Affected Children, proving them with necessary financial and educational support.
