India’s Public Broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Tuesday, May 10, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Madagascar state public broadcaster ORTM (Office de la Radio et de la Television) on cooperation and collaboration in Broadcasting. The agreement was jointly signed by India’s Ambassador to Madagascar Abhay Kumar and ORTM Director-General Belalahy Jean Yves in capital Antananarivo. The ceremony was graced by the Director of Cabinet of the Ministry of Communication and Culture and representatives of the Government of Madagascar.
Under the new agreement, Madagascar National Television (TVM) will broadcast programmes from internal productions of Prasar Bharati in the fields of culture, education, science, entertainment, sports, news as well as other areas of mutual interest. Both sides will explore co-production opportunities related to matters of mutual interest and will arrange training for TVM personnel in India.
Taking to the micro blogging site, Prasar Bharati said, “An MoU on cooperation and collaboration in Broadcasting was signed between Prasar Bharati and ORTM (Office de la Radio et de la Television) Madagascar in Antananarivo by Ambassador Abhay Kumar and Jean Yves Belalahy, Director General of ORTM.
India and Madagascar enjoy cordial bilateral relations. There are about 17,500 persons of Indian origin in Madagascar mostly from Gujarat. Madagascar supports India’s candidature in the multinational fora and is close to three of India’s closest partners in the region as part of the western Indian Ocean, Mauritius, Seychelles & Mozambique. The cooperation is further growing because of strong investments in coal and gas sector.
