The dynamic, comprehensive and operationally focussed training of the Indian Armed Forces addresses the complete spectrum of challenges that fall in the way of the nation. Our forces not only contribute towards the safety of the nation but also carry out various unique humane initiatives.
In another humanitarian aid, the Indian Army will be sponsoring undergraduate courses and school education to selected children and youth from the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The initiative is aimed at providing quality education to deserving candidates from the Union Territories and offer them opportunities and exposure to acquire requisite competence and capability for a secure future. For the academic year 2021-2022, 100 seats have been earmarked for boys and girls of classes VIII and IX in two Army Public Schools. These schools are located at Beas in Punjab and Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand.
Moreover, in the academic year 2021-2022, six vacancies in professional colleges at Army Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Army Institute of Fashion Design in Bengaluru and Army Institute of Nursing / Army College of Nursing in Guwahati / Jalandhar will also be made available.
It is worth noting that these colleges are immensely focussing on women empowerment as they will offer Bachelors’ Degrees in Hospitality including Fashion Design and Nursing only for girl students. From next year onwards, two additional seats will be provided in the Army’s Management institution at Kolkata / Greater Noida and Army Institute of Education at Greater Noida. The students will also be offered MBA and B Ed / B Ed Special Education courses in these colleges.
Such initiatives would enhance the opportunities for the youth of Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh and will help in shaping their future into dream careers by studying in the country’s best schools and colleges. These colleges are equipped with stellar faculty, innovative pedagogy, immersive experience and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
It is important to know that this help is meant for residential schools and colleges functioning under the Army Welfare Education Society across the country and as part of Operation Sadbhavana.
Let’s learn more about Operation Sadbhavana
Operation Sadbhavana (Goodwill) is an initiative undertaken by the Indian Army in the State of Jammu & Kashmir to address the aspirations of people. The operation was launched to supplement the efforts of the administration in restoring public services, rebuilding infrastructure and creating a conducive environment for development.
The focus of Operation Sadbhavana is to improve the overall core social indices of Education, Women & Youth Empowerment, and Health care. Ever since the inception of Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army has established 46 Army Goodwill Schools and helped approximately 1900 State Government-run schools by carrying out renovation, modifications, infrastructure augmentation and provisioning of equipment.
Indian Army has also assisted nearly 565 students to obtain admission in various institutions. Several medical aid/health centres have also been constructed to cater for the medical needs of people.
Further, special emphasis is being laid to empower women by organising skill development training like operating computers, knitting, tailoring, candle making and bag making at various Vocational Training Centers.
This unique initiative stands as a dazzling example of the commitment and dedication of the uniformed community towards the people of Jammu & Kashmir. The Indian Army belongs to the people and its commitment will last as long as the involvement of the people lasts.
