They are simply called the ‘Backbone of our country’. They never stop their work even during heavy rains or scorching sunny days. They are the ones who provide food in our platters.
“Farmers” have great importance in our society. And to empower these imperative pillars of our nation, MIDH, the Division of Ministry of Agriculture along with MASHAV – Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation – are leading Israel’s largest Government to Government cooperation, with 29 INDO-ISRAEL Agricultural Project Centres of Excellence (COEs) operational across India in 12 States. These centers implement advanced-Intensive agriculture with Israeli Agro-Technology tailored to local conditions.
The Centres of Excellence generate knowledge, demonstrate best practices, and train farmers through the country to maximise their produce, bring profitability and operate with the ultimate aim of amalgamating modern technology in agriculture.
To gain more knowledge about the modus operandi of these Centres of Excellence, Joining us Dr. Suresh Kulkarni, Senior Scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) , Sagroli,Maharashtra.

Every year, these Centres of Excellence produce more than 25 million quality vegetable seedlings, over 387 thousand quality fruit plants and train more than 1.2 lakh farmers about the latest technology in the field of horticulture.
Dr. Suresh mentions how imperative it is to adopt modern techniques and he asserted that “Farmers are the real Scientist”, Let’s hear why.

Adopting these techniques, the Centers of Excellence address both small and large farm holders thus offering a wide range of agricultural practices – from Hi-Tech poly-houses to walking tunnels and net houses, in order to enable all to benefit from the new technologies.
