Archery highlights (India): - Deepika at 9th; teams up with Pravin for the mixed event
Hours ahead of the opening ceremony, India kickstarted its Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games journey with World Number 1 in Women’s Recurve, Deepika Kumari finishes at 9th position with 663 points out of 720 in the Women’s recurve archery ranking round at the Yumenoshima Ranking Field.
The ace archer will face Bhutan’s Karma in the first round of the Women’s Individual Recurve Archery event to be held on July 27. The Women’s individual recurve archery Round 1 matches will take place on 27th and 28th July in Tokyo.
Deepika Kumari was in the fourth spot by the end of the first half, but during the second half, she scored overall 329 points (three- 7s and a couple of 8s) which pushed her down the order.
During the Women’s Recurve archery ranking round, South Korea’s An San broke Ukrainian archer Herasymenko Lina’s Olympic record by scoring 680 points out of 720.
Men’s Individual Recurve Archery Ranking Round:
In Men’s Individual Recurve Archery Ranking Round, debutant Pravin Jadhav finishes at 31st rank with 656 points out of 720, ahead of India’s top-ranked male archer Atanu Das.
Das scored 653 points out of 720 with 35th rank followed by Tarundeep Rai at 37th rank with 652 points out of 720.
Seventeen-year-old Korean phenomenon Kim Je Deok topped the men’s ranking round with 688 points followed by USA’s Brady Ellison with 682 points.
On the other hand, Deepika Kumari will team up with Pravin Jadhav for Mixed Team Event. India ranked 9th in the Mixed Team Event with a combined score of 1319 (Deepika- 663 & Pravin Jadhav- 656) out of 1440 points available.
Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav to face archers from Chinese Taipei- Lin Chia-en and Tang Chih-Chun in Mixed team events on July 24th. Also, the Indian men’s archery team will be facing Kazakhstan in the opening round
